Put the dried chickpeas and half a tablespoon of baking soda in a bowl and soak them overnight in twice the water.
Place the soaked chickpeas in a saucepan (pour off the soaking water), add half a tablespoon of baking soda and twice the water, heat the water to a boil, reduce the heat to low and cook for 2-3 hours until the beans are tender.
Cut off the tops of the garlic, leaving out the cloves, drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with salt, then wrap in foil.
